DEEP ROOTS | 2019-2020 | lustreware on ceramic

My first project in realized in Canada, it represents a very personal attempt to reconnect and engage with my Persian heritage, while avoiding being constrained by it.  It is an exploration of identity and of the immigrant experience – of the contradictions and tensions that comes from having a foot in each of two worlds.  

The surfaces are playfully decorated with iconography and depictions mythical scenes, using 13th century lustre glaze techniques.
